If you wake up to an açaí smoothie bowl, you are set for the day. I am totally obsessed with açaí, to the point that if I see it on the menu, I will ignore everything else and order just this. Yup, it beats the avocado and toast current trend by a mile.
A Brazilian specialty, açaí (ah-sigh-EE) berry is a grape-like fruit harvested from açaí palm trees. You can find açaí in the form of frozen smoothie packs or freeze dried powder. I personally like the frozen packs as you can just add to the blender and whizz it up with some chopped bananas and you are done.
Açaí is a great source of antioxidants, fibre, heart healthy-fats, and minerals. It’s also low on sugar if you have the unsweetened version. It is a great way to kick start your morning with a clean and energy boosting breakfast. As they say, breakfast is the most important meal of the day, so plan it well.

My açaí recipe
- One frozen pack of açaí
- One chopped up banana
- 1 tsp of flaxseeds
Whiz everything up in a blender and top with whatever takes your fancy. I like using gluten-free granola as they are slow release energy foods that will help you keep your energy levels up. The crunchiness of it, is something I can’t get enough of.
My favourite toppings are blueberries and cashew/almond nuts.
Other toppings you may fancy are: sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds (my favourite also and super duper healthy), strawberries and pears.
