Hands down, this is one of my favourite desserts!
For all those who are allergic to the kitchen, this is the easiest receipe ever! After a mouthful of this, your mind will take you back to the time you were at Khal El Khalil, sitting in a cafe eating the real Om Ali:) Trust me, it tastes that good.
It’s a great solution for those last minute guests leaving you having to whip up something real quick. It’s one of those dishes that takes minutes to prepare and seconds to demolish.
It will literally take you 10 minutes to prepare and a further 15 minutes in the oven. You will have your guests thinking you slaved away for hours making it.
To make roughly 8 portions:
4-5 large croissants
2 handfuls of chopped nuts
2 handfuls of raisons
550mls of semi skimmed milk (if you are not worried about calories, use whole milk instead)
Half a teaspoon of cinnamon
4-5 tablespoons of sugar (add more if you have a sweet tooth)
A couple of drops of vanilla essence
Method:
1-Turn oven to 180 degrees
2-Cut up croissants in bits and place in dish
3-Pour milk in saucepan and turn up heat to medium, don’t allow to boil
4-Add the cinnamon, sugar and vanilla essence and stir. Simmer until hot
5-Sprinkle nuts and raisons on croissants evenly
6- Pour milk over the croissants but don’t cover them completely – about half way.(You may need to add extra milk).
7- Pop the dish into the oven for about 15-20 minutes until most of the milk has dried up and the croissants are just moist. Don’t allow milk to dry up completely.
8- Its ready to demolish. Takes great with cream or ice cream on the side.
Let me know what you all think.
