How to up your blogging game is something that is probably always on a bloggers mind. Am I ringing any bells here?
I’ve grown to appreciate how difficult it can be to maintain a blog. Writing posts, taking pictures, finding inspiration, handling social media handles etc all takes up a chunk of my time. This is why planning in advance and getting organised is crucial.
It’s common sense but hard to actually do when you have a million other tasks and activities to fit into your day. I do think that the key lies in how you prioritise. Focusing on a few tasks and learning to do little at a time of each task is the key. Choosing one task and working on it until completion doesn’t really work for me. I prefer to work on a few things and seeing progress in all.
These are my top tips for upping your blogging game.
1-Visit other blogs and reply to your comments.
Make time to comment on other people’s blogs and reply to comments. This is a great way to get your blog out there amongst other bloggers and will help drive traffic to your blog and receive comments (hopefully). Usually when you leave a comment, the person should also leave a comment on yours. I can be quite lazy and sometimes don’t even approve my blog comments for a few days, but I am upping my game here.
2- Tag all your images with your keywords and relevant tags.
This will increase your SEO and hence bring more traffic to your blog. Instead of just writing “pic1”, think about renaming it with relevant tags e.g. Spring holiday half term activities.
3-Update your stats
There’s nothing worse than a brand/company checking your stats and seeing that you haven’t updated it. It’s takes 5 minutes. Do it regularly, every other day or if time is really a rate limiting factor then every week. Also update your about me section to your blog too every now and again or when you feel like it needs updating with any changes you’ve made that you want your readers to know about e.g. I have recently started blogging about healthy eating and share recipes once a week.
4-Plan your posts in advance
Using an excel spreadsheet would be a good starting point to jot down ideas for a blog post and dates for when they are scheduled to go live. Also write your posts in a word document as you go along or even on your notes section of your phones. The best blog ideas that come to me are when I am out and about and often jot them down quickly before I forget.
5- Get inspired
Have a scroll through Twitter and Bloglovin to get ideas for posts. I try to do this once a week. It is all about getting organised. Sometimes I don’t post for a whole week but I am trying to change that and really get on top of it and do three posts a week. Of course life gets in the way sometimes, (maybe a lot) but that is why it is good to plan posts about a month in advance. See my other post for more information/advice on getting inspired.
How do you up your blogging game? Out of interest how many blogs do you all comment on a day? It does take at least an hour for me to comment on around 15 blogs so I don’t often have time to do this amongst my everyday mundane tasks ( #momlife).
