I love all things natural when it comes to skincare and hair products. It is amazing what is out there in our everyday food that we eat and drink which has huge benefits to our health which we are not aware of. If you look at what you buy for your skin, I can guarantee that at least two item on the ingredient list, are ones that you can find in your everyday life.

I don’t spend huge amounts on skincare and hair products, and I like to stick to what works for me. I am also not a fan of products that contain chemicals and other non sense and prefer to use paraben-free skin care. I am someone who suffers from acne (yes I am in my 30s and still can’t fight that off) so I try not to aggravate the skin further.
Here are a list of my top 5 natural ingredients that will do wonders for you.
EGG
FACT: Your hair is protein, so if its damaged, what should you apply? It is that simple- PROTEIN! Hence why Egg yolk is amazing as a hair mask. I like to label it as ”food for the hair”. It promotes hair growth and heals damage.
- Mix 1 egg with some olive oil and apply to scalp and length and let it sit for about an hour before rinsing with cold water and wash the hair normally.
2. AVOCADO
FACT: These are my favourite for brunch with eggs, (A FACT). But aside from taking it internally, its topical use has huge benefits for both your hair and skin. They are loaded with omega-3 and Vitamins A, D and E. As we know Vitamin E is amazing to help nourish and moisturise the skin. (I am sure you can see this listed at the back of your moisturiser box). Because of its anti-oxidant properties, it makes a fabulous ingredient for those who suffer from psoriasis, eczema and other inflammatory conditions.
- For the face: Mash half an avocado and mix with olive oil or even lemon juice and apply to skin for 20 minutes.
- For hair: You can buy avocado oil which you can heat up and when slightly warm apply to the hair and leave overnight. Wash the next day.
3- SODIUM BICARBONATE
FACT: I have slathered, soaked and rubbed a dozen nail care products all over my digits and nothing seems to work to treat a list of, cracked cuticles, ridged nails and discolouration of nails like Sodium Bicarbonate has. Who would have thought that this gritty white paste works better than in salon regular nail treatments.
- Use 3 parts of soda with 1 part of water and rub in circular motion over cuticles. Now don’t attempt to snip your cuticles (nail sinner), I would apply olive oil to nails and push the cuticles back with a nail utensil.
4- ALO-VERA
FACT: My guru product to a healthy lifestyle! I love this stuff. It is great for the skin and has huge internal benefits. I usually make an alo-vera juice (if I have time) every morning to go with my breakfast.
An acidic body is a breeding ground for various diseases. Alo-Vera helps keep your body at an alkaline PH. Other alkaline foods include: seeds, nuts, green vegetables and fruit. It is so important to eat at least 2-3 pieces of fruit a day.
Because it helps to increase water content in the intestines, it makes a great treatment for constipation. It also helps to normalise healthy bacteria in your gut contributing to giving you a healthy microbiome. You can buy Alo-Vera juice from As Nature intended or Whole Foods.
I like to make my own, using the Alo-Vera plant. Cut a 3 inch piece, squeeze half a lemon, chop up a celery stick and whizz in the blender. You can also add ginger which has huge benefits for your body- relieving nausea, anti-inflammatory diseases, the list is endless.
5- HONEY
FACT: Since the ancient times, honey has been used as a medicine as well as a food source. Its a great alternative for refined sugar so a good option for diabetic patients but use in moderation still. Raw honey is even better with a higher percentage of antioxidants which help lower blood pressure, reduce risk if heart disease. Topical honey had been used to treat burns and wounds in the ancient Egyptian times and it is still being used today for this use.
- I use it in my face masks. Add a teaspoon of honey to yoghurt and a squeeze of lemon.
- I also make turmeric face mask using: half a teaspoon of turmeric, half a teaspoon of honey and some yoghurt.
There you have it, my 5 natural ingredients that will do wonders for you.
Any of you using these already?
